DIY Picture & Card Holder

Christina’s adventuresI've always wanted to do this project but never had the right tools. Finally, my father-in-law got us a drill. I think I was more excited than my husband. I had one project in mind when they got home from the store.

Here's my picture and card holder tutorial.

I purchased wooden dowels, wood glue and the crew at Lowe's Home Improvement hooked me up with a nice thick 3" 1 1/2" wood base for my project. They even cut to size for me.
I measured 2 1/2" allowance on each side of my base before drilling holes for my wooden dowels.

I lined up my wooden dowels and made sure the spacing looked even or you can measure too! I measured about 1 1/2" space in between. Use a pencil and mark up the middle of the wooden base before drilling.

I used my new drill and used the 5/16" bit perfect size for my wooden dowels. I suggest doing the drilling outside the house or maybe inside the garage. Makes quite a bit of a mess.

After drilling fill in holes with Elmer's Wood Glue Max and use your mallet to secure the dowels all the way down the drilled holes. Let it dry for an hour and set aside.

While waiting for the wooden stand to dry. I dressed up my wooden clothespins with a fine crochet yarn. I picked red and pink. I wrapped the bottom half of the pin to dress it up. Secure yarn with glue and set aside to dry.

I didn't stop there. I also found some extra wooden discs and stamped them using my PSA Essentials Peel and Stick Rosettas stamp set. I also punched some scalloped tags and mounted the wooden discs on it.

To give it more depth I pre-cut some cute doily accents for the outer design.

Glue wooden disc onto your scalloped paper and then glue everything on top of your doily accent. Dress it up with some puff pearlized paint and set aside to dry.

Glue the flower tops onto your clothespin and glue them on the wooden dowels. Wait for a few minutes to dry and you're done.

Here's the finished product ready to hold your precious photos and cards.

Cookies for Breakfast - Happy Valentine's Day!

There's nothing sweeter than waking up early morning and whipping up some heart shaped short bread cookies for your loved ones. Boys were busy playing in the living and these cookies didn't take a long time to make. I think I might just do this every year. I could prepare the dough day in advance but as usual there were too many things happening in our little household.

Shortbread Cookies (adapted from Food Network)

Ingredients:
1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. fine salt
3/4 cup unsalted butter (1 1/2 sticks), softened
2/3 cup sugar
1 large egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/3 cup strawberry jam (no seeds)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
Whisk the flour, baking powder and salt together in a bowl.
In another bowl, whip the butter and the sugar until fluffy, about 5 minutes. Beat in egg and vanilla until just combined. Slowly beat in dry ingredients in 2 additions, mixing just until incorporated.
Divide dough in 6 parts and roll out and use a heart shaped cookie cutter. Flip and coat with sugar crystal and place on the mat with the sugar facing up.
Bake for 12 minutes.
Store cookies in a tightly sealed container for up to 5 days.

Huge hit from the boys.

It feels like Christmas around here but it's only Valentine's and we get to enjoy some sugar cookies for breakfast. Yummy!

He's never done this before. He actually smiled for me.

I made a cake from scratch. Never done this before. I might just bake our cakes from now on. It was pretty good.

PSA Essentials Designs: DIY Art Kit

I love being creative and I love to equip my little boys with some cute Valentine's goodies to keep their little hands busy when Mommy is cooking or sweeping crumbs off the floor after a meal.

Here's my DIY art kit.

I saved up some fabric scraps and I just love recycling them and finding a new purpose instead of throwing them out. I picked three styles. One for the main art kit holder, one accent piece for the inside pocket and a light canvas fabric for the name stamping.

I stamped my their names onto the light canvas and used my PSA Essentials Peel and Stick Vanilla letters. It was the perfect style for this project.

Used the composition notebook as my guide in creating the art kit organizer. I used the main fabric and sewed it inside out and turned it over. Iron the main fabric and sew folded ends neatly.

After folding the base fabric in three sections. Pin the size that requires sewing.

Prepare the accent fabric for the outer inside pocket. Using the pins as your guide mark down the spaces for the crayon holder and leave some space for a misc. pocket option. Sew it down and remove pins as you go along.

I used a black velcro to match my project and pinned it down for easy sewing.

After sewing the entire organizer. Cut the stamped canvas down to the size of a business card and pin the fabric on the main front flap. Sew and trim extra thread.

Here's my homemade Valentine's gift for my busy boys. I see lots of drawing and coloring for days to come. I used the misc. pocket to keep their sign language flash cards. We've been working on using our signs when we need something. The right side I kept it to organize their crayons and I made some extra room for washable markers and pencils.

PSA Essentials Designs: DIY Wine Party

Happy to share my wine party project.

I used an old wine tote bag as a pattern for my wine bags. Used a natural canvas and retro fabric for the accent. Sew printed fabric on the front side of the canvas and sew the top opening to prevent from fraying. Then turn inside out and sew all sides leaving the opening.

Pre-cut my doily themed circle tags using my Silhouette SD. Stamped the middle with PSA Essentials Archive peel and stick set. I picked a nice thick yarn for hanging my wine tags.

I also sewed a matching canvas favor bags and stamped the initials of my guests. Filled my recycled baby food jars with peanuts. You can fill the jars with any edible treats. Using the same yarn color tie the top of the tote bags. I also created a napkin from the left over fabric to cover my cake stand to tie the theme together.

I made these adorable cupcake wrappers to match my cupcake toppers. I used the PSA Essentials Smirk Martini Mix peel and stick stamp set.

I also created the wine note cards to match the theme. Using the same doily tags I stamped the corresponding letters to match the wine totes. Thread the yarn through and knot both ends to secure the tag. It's easy if you use a crochet hook to pull the yarn through. I also used a bamboo stick to create the holes. This card measures 4"x9" you can create it using Microsoft Word or InDesign. I'm leaving the name of the wine blank so we can fill the name after we taste all of them. It'll be a nice surprise.

I can't wait to invite my friends over for some wine tasting. Cheers!!!

PSA Essentials Designs: 2012 Organic Calendar

Welcome 2012! I love to start my New Year with my homemade calendar inspired by eating well. A simple reminder each month to try and buy organic products, supporting local farmers, cook more at home and making wise decisions to create a healthy life style.

I used a 5"x7" layout, created the monthly spreads and drew the vegetable and fruit monthly theme using Adobe Illustrator. I added a cute little starburst as a background. Printed them out and cut them individually.

I used the PSA Essentials Peel & Stick Vanilla stamp set and stamped the letters to complete my calendar. After stamping the letters. I used my circle punch and glued the month to my card. The cards follow a certain theme and the season for each vegetable and fruit. It made it easy for me to remember the months as I finish each card.

After setting the stamped circle cards. I chose the zigzag stitch and sewed a straight line through the circle tags. It's easier if you glue the letter accents down before sewing.

Ta-da! All 12 cards done and ready to be punched. I used my mini Zutter Bug to punch the notebook holes. I also used a nice silver wire coil to bind my calendar.

Before binding. Use a chip board and cut two 5"x8.5" cards to serve as the calendar backing/stand. Score 1.25" edge of the card and fold. Punch holes and bind with the rest of the calendar.

Don't you love getting a nicely wrapped present from a dear friend. This year I am taking it to another level and giving my wrapping a nice twist. I decided to make my own Christmas Labels and draw string bags.

Here's what you'll need:

Retro Fabric (from Fabric.com)

Pre-punch all your shapes, stamp the tree design on the white card stock (inner layer) and embellish with pearl stickers. Place inner circle on top of the scalloped circle tag and glue on top of the base label. There are a total of three layers for this project.

Cut the fabric according to the size of your present. On the front side of your fabric sew the Christmas label. Turn over hen start sewing all sides for your draw string bag. Add the pink yarn at the end and thread through the bag.

I found a cut pink tin container with a clear top. Perfect little storage for the bracelet. You can also fill the bag with shredded pink paper.

Here's the cute little draw string bag. I can't wait to give this gift to my friend.

A few simple Christmas projects

I made these adorable homemade Christmas tags. I love my new Silhouette SD blade. I can't believe I was able to cut a 100 lb. card stock paper. It's truly incredible. I love thick paper and I just can't bring my self to using a thin card card stock. I also dug up some old Christmas stamps from my craft room and fell in love with them again. I knew there was a reason why I got them in the first place. I mainly used yarn instead of ribbon to attach my tags.

We also got in the spirit despite our hesitation of putting the tree up for the boys. This little Elf #1 enjoyed the Christmas lights and the sparkly ornaments.

My Elf #2 helped too! Took them one week of pulling some ornaments out. They haven't touched it since.

I also sewed these cute reindeer felt ornaments. These are so easy to make and kid friendly too! I can't wait to make some more for next year. I just love the handmade ornaments. Takes a lot of time but love the quality.

I did majority of my shopping online. This box came from the Disney Store and the boys loved it. It was their first pretend house. I love the text on the box flap "big dreams".

These guys were so good at helping me run a few errands when we can to complete our Christmas list. They also played well at home on cold and windy days. I can't ask for anything more.

Personalized Stationery

PSA Essentials Designs: Christmas (Hostess Gift)

It's that time of the year when we all get invited to different Christmas parties and it's always nice to bring a little hostess gift along with you. For this project I created wine burlap bags with wooden gift tags.

Here's what you'll need:

Acrylic Block
Black Stamp Pad
2 " Scalloped Circle Puncher
Cuttlebug Circle Decorative Embossing Folder
1 1/8" Wooden Discs
Drill
Red Card Stock Pape
Modge Podge Glue & Brush
Natural Twine
Burlap
Accent Canvas Fabric

Stamp the tree design in the middle of the wooden discs. Glue it on top of the embossed scalloped circle tag.

Drill a hole through the wooden discs and use a natural twine to tie around the bag.

For the bag I used an old wine bag as my pattern. I also wanted to add a pop of color to match the tags. I selected a nice polka dot red and white canvas fabric for the top portion of the wine bag. Sew all sides and turn inside out and insert favorite wine and tie the wooden tags around.

My hostess gifts are ready. Happy Holidays!!!

PSA Essentials Designs: Stamped Salt Dough Ornaments (December)

I've been wanting to do this for a while now and I finally had some time to make my very own stamped salted dough ornaments. These are super easy to make and they make a fun gift to anyone on your list.

Salt Dough Recipe:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1/2 cup water

Blend all ingredients together until a sticky dough is formed. I didn't use my mixer for this project. I did it the old fashioned way and it worked out well too! Roll out and use a fluted cookie cutter and add black ink on your acrylic stamp and add the design on the dough. Use a wooden stick to add holes.

Bake before decorating at 200 degrees for 4-6 hours or you can leave them out overnight. I used PSA Essentials "Treeo" Peel and Stick Stamp Set and used my markers to add some color.

You can use them as ornaments or gift tags. It's such a unique way to decorate your tree or embellish any Christmas present. If you would like to keep your ornaments for years add a thin layer of polyurethane gloss varnish to prevent moisture. This is also a great project you can share with your kids. Lots of creative possibilities. Enjoy!

Every year I like creating handmade Christmas cards for my friends and family. This year I am giving this cute Hello Kitty card to my closest girlfriends. It's whimsical and festive for the Holiday Season.

I used the PSA Hello Kitty Peel & Stick stamp set. I used a red card stock for the card and used my Cuttlebug Polka Dots Embossing Folder to create a nice textured background. Then I layered it with a green plaid paper and enhanced the edge by punching a decorative design using Martha Stewart's Doily Lace Edge Puncher. I also added a shimmery chocolate brown ribbon.

Using a 1-3/8" circle puncher for the inner circle and stamp the Hello Kitty image and add some color. Glue the image on the scalloped circle and place on top of the card.

This is such a cute and unique card that will surely bring a smile to my girls.

Baby Shower Basket

Been really busy these past few months. I finally completed the baby shower gift basket for a dear friend. Everything was completely handmade except for a few of my favorite baby products.

Crochet baby hat with a cute little white flower.

Also, crochet a pink scarf for the bear. :)

Made her a crochet baby blanket, hat, burp cloths, binky clips and a changing pad.

Wrapped the basket with tulle instead of cellophane. :) This project took so long to finish but so worth it.

PSA Essentials Design: Thanksgiving (Entertaining)

Hosting a Thanksgiving dinner can be hectic with all the cooking you have to do. I found this simple and easy recipe you can add to your dinner table in minutes before dinner starts.

Project #2: Entertaining (Thanksgiving Theme)

EASY PUMPKIN MUFFINS

Ingredients:
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. oil
3 eggs
1 lb. can pumpkin
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Measure all ingredients in a big mixing bowl. Beat together well for 5 minutes. Pour into cupcake pans (fill more than 1/2 full). Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.

Optional: I mixed in cranberries and pecans for my share. My husband is not a big fan of fruits and nuts. I also topped it with cinnamon, sugar and whole oats.

I used silver foils and mini mason jars for this project. This project features the PSA Essentials Peel & Stick Country Set. Stamped the spoon on top of the pre-cut 2"x2" squares, punch holes, thread natural twine through and wrap around the jars.

PSA Essentials Design: Decorating for Home (Thanksgiving Theme)

I am really enjoying decorating for Thanksgiving. It's such a joyous occasion to share with your family and friends.

I was out window shopping with my boys and found these gorgeous maple leaf doilies. Believe it or not they were a Dollar Store find. I knew exactly what to do when I saw them.

Project #1: Fireplace Mantel Design
I used the PSA Essentials Peel & Stick Romance set and stamped "THANKS" on my pre-cut circle tags. I used my sewing machine to attach the stamped letters to my doilies. I used three to four sheets of maple leaf doily to create the 3-d leaf effect. Fold each leaf all the way to the middle, separate the leaves carefully and use a twine to hang the decorative doily leaves. I used a 1/2" inch natural rope for hanging.

Here's my fireplace mantel looking so festive again in time for Thanksgiving. I also took the remaining leaves and hang them up to mimic the foliage. I also printed the turkey silhouette...because I love any type of silhouettes.

The decoration wouldn't be complete without setting the table for your beloved guests.

Project #2: Thanksgiving Dinner Table Design
I am loving the PSA Essentials Peel & Stick Country Home set for this project. I picked the spoons and rooster as part of my design. I'm using a 2"x2" pre-cut linen card stock sheets I purchased from Envelopperinc. I downloaded the online template and typed "Happy Thanksgiving" across each square and stamp the image. After stamping I used Polymark dimensional fabric paint and added tiny dots to the spoons. Let it dry for 15 minutes, punch and thread your natural twine. If you want a rustic feel you can use a brown ink pad and brush the edges of the card for a vintage country look.

I stamped the rooster for my Thanksgiving tree design piece. Added some doily maple leaves for guests to write what they are thankful for this year.

I also purchased a fabric from Joann Fabrics and used my old napkins as a template. Adding a nice homemade feel to my decoration and used mini decorative grouds as well.

I also picked-up a few more twigs in our backyard and spray painted them to create the centerpiece for my dinner table. I used hurricane candle holders. Wrapped them with dark brown felt, created some felt rosettes glued them on around the felt sleeve. I stuffed the glass with crinkled beige paper to keep the twigs in place.

I love handmade presents and also creating pretty one-of-a-kind packaging. I am placing Cate's Alphabet Set inside this cute orange box and decorating it with some adorable stamped flowers that matches the retro fabric I used. I am going to use PSA Essentials Rosettas Peel and Stick Stamp Set.

Here's what we'll need:

Crochet Yarn
Small Crochet Hook (for easy threading)

Stamp a variety of rosettes on the gray card stock paper. I'm using gray to match the cute draw string bag I made from my previous tutorial for Cate's Alphabet Set.

Use the 1-3/8" circle punch to cut out the flowers flowers. Use the tag puncher and add holes on each side.

Use the small crochet hook and thread the yarn through the punched circles. Distribute the flowers while wrapping the yarn over the box. Do this step several times until you reach the desired style/look. After wrapping a few times secure design and tie both ends.

This is such a great way to dress up an ordinary box. I love the this cute A7 box from Paper-Source. I think it's adorable and perfect for any occasion.

PSA Essentials Design: Kid Crafts (Halloween Theme)

Halloween Treat Bags:

This is super easy and fun to make with your little ones. First precut the scallop and decorative tags. Use the Skelanimals Thomas & Friends Peel and Stick stamp set. I really love the little spider. I think he's super cute. Stamp right in the center of the scalloped tag and glue the scalloped piece on top of the decorative tag. Attach your layered design on top of your mini paper sacks. I got mine from Michael's. Fill each bag with candy corn, seal, punch hole & use natural twine for hanging.

I also found some branches from my backyard and spray painted it to match the theme. I'm going to hang my Halloween treat bags for now, until I'm ready to give them away. Such a nice center piece for a party too!

Halloween Jello Treats:

These are baby food jars that I have saved up. Clean them well and soak in warm water with soap. Scrub the food label, rinse and air dry. This project is great for your little helpers. This is a two-day project and perfect way of teaching your kids about patience.

Prepare you jello mixture and pour half way through the jar. Refrigerate to set the jello. Add your creepy crawlers inside and fill with more jello. You'll need two small packs of jello. This is also a great treat your kids can share at school. A snack with your very own insect inside.

I finished this project with a layered tag and used the Skelanimals Thomas & Friends Peel and Stick stamp set. Punched the card and used some natural twine. Wrap around the lid and you're done.

PSA Essentials Design: Entertaining (Halloween Theme)

My good friend Katie from Katie Cakes helped me complete this Halloween spread. She's so amazing at what she does and I was so thrilled when she agreed to help me with the cupcakes and cookie treats. It was a team effort.

Following my previous post I shared the kid crafts Halloween treat bags and jello snacks. I decided to add them to our dessert table design. I used Skelanimals Thomas & Friends Peel and Stick stamp set for to complete the theme.

Layered labels and stamped cupcake liners were made to dress up the fabulous chocolate cupcake with vanilla bean butter cream frosting Katie had prepared. Prepared the chocolate puddings and frosted chocolate cookies with white chocolate and piped the words with black glitter gel.

I used a left over black and white striped fabric and left the sides as is. We liked the rough edges to give it some character. I love using paper fans for back drops. It's super quick and easy to assemble.

PSA Essentials Design: Decorating for Home (Halloween Theme)

I am in love with Pinterest. Sometimes, I just sit in front of the computer after a hectic day with my boys and I pin all the projects I would like to do. I actually recycled a wreath I created for my sons 1st birthday party. I thought the color fits well with my October assignment.

If you're starting from scratch use a foam wreath and wrap the yarn around it. Since, I am using a wrapped wreath with the orange yarn. I decided to add black stripes around it. I suggest using the orange as your base color first...then layer it with your coordinating yarn.

I used my Silhouette SD to cut out some shapes for the banner, decorative and circle tags. I used the PSA Romance Peel and Stick stamp set for the letters. I also used a decorative tape on top of the banner. Punch each corner and thread the natural twine through the holes. Attach to your wreath and glue ends.

I used the Skelanimals Thomas & Friends Peel and Stick stamp set for the spider accent. I used my pre-cut scallop tags and stamped the spider right in the middle. Then I also trimmed a 1" strip of Halloween theme pattern paper and used my Scor-Pal to add the crease for my star-burst layer. Glue ends of the strip and attach scalloped piece right on top.

I also created another banner for my mantel. Follow the same steps for creating the banner and use the same natural twine for hanging. To recreate the same look. Use your existing picture frames. Print your Halloween silhouettes and replace your pictures with it. It's a great way of re-purposing things you already have. I picked up a few pumpkins at Michael's and the rest were old decorations from I kept in storage.

This project is dedicated to my little beautiful niece "Cate". Every year I plan out my handmade Christmas presents for my family. I like to plan throughout the year and all my projects done before the busy Holiday Season. This is one of many surprises I have for Miss Cate. I created her very own Alphabet Set. I enjoyed using the PSA Essentials Vanilla (letters) Peel & Stick Stamp Set for this project.

Here's what we'll need:

PSA Essentials "Vanilla" Peel and Stick Stamp Set
PSA Essentials Stamp Tool
PSA Essentials Stamp Setter
PSA Essentials Black Stamp Pad
1-3/8 " Circle Puncher
1 1/2" Wooden Disc (26)
Card Stock Paper (Used orange to match my retro fabric)
Modge Podge Glue & Brush
Natural Twine
Retro Fabric (Amy Butler)

Stamp each letters as a set to minimize and confusion. It makes organizing much simpler when you do it this way.

Use the 1-3/8" circle puncher and center each letter inside the hole and punch away. Again, keep A-I as one set and set aside.

Here's the first set. Keep going and complete the second and third sets. Mount each card on the 1 1/2" wooden disc. Lay them out before applying the glue.

Brush the back of your card stock with glue and place it on top of the wooden disc. Then brush a light coating to secure. This step also adds a nice matte finish on top of each letter. Let it dry for a few hours.

I made a simple draw string bag to complete this project. I used the cute retro fabric (from Amy Butler's fabric line) and natural twine (Target find from last year). I also used a laser jet friendly fabric sheets. Typed up "Cate's Alphabet Set" trimmed and sew all the sides down. These are extra steps I created to make my gift set special. You can use different styles of packaging. I just love the handmade feel the bag brings.

I can't wait to pack it up with the rest of my handmade Christmas presents for my relatives in Salt Lake City. :)

PSA Essentials Design: Play Date Cards

I'm a new Mom and now that my boys are entering the new toddler phase. I find myself organizing play dates for us. I am their booking agent (loving every minute). These cute PSA Rocket Peel & Stick Stamp set inspired me to design these cute play date cards.

Here's what we'll need:

PSA Essentials "Rocket" Peel and Stick Stamp Set
PSA Essentials Stamping Kit
PSA Essentials Stamp Setter
PSA Essentials Black Stamp Pad
1-3/8 " Circle Puncher
Tag Puncher
Coordinating Card Stock Paper
4x6 playdate card layout
Aqua Divine Twine
Embroidery Needle (to thread the twine through the paper accents)

Use the coordinating paper and stamp away. I stamped a few extra air planes and rockets just to be sure I had enough for this project.

Use the 1-3/8 " circle puncher and center the artwork and punch out six designs. Use the tag puncher to add holes on each side of the circle and pull twine through using a embroidery needle or you can eye ball it if you like.

I created a 4x6 layout and typed my playdate card information. To decorate the card remove the middle design and use the outer circle and stamp randomly around the card. I am going to attach the circles in the middle of the card suspended like a tiny banner.

Once, all six designs are complete. Punch two holes on the card and pull the tails through the card hole. Secure all six circles and arrange them before you secure your twine in the back of the card. The circle pieces might not lay flat - no worries use a craft tape to secure your design.

That's it! Pretty simply and easy to do. I am excited to pack them inside my bag. I can't wait to share it with our future play mates.

Yard Sale Find: Bean Bag

We went on another yard sale quest. My friend and I found a bunch of cute things along the way. One of them is this bean bag set from a lady that lives in my neighborhood. Nothing against Appstate but I saw the inner beauty. I needed the bean bag filler. Bean bag yard sale price $12.

I purchased this cute Chevron fabric online and used an old flat sheet as the main pillow cover. I just followed this simple tutorial for pillow shams and I was able to create my cute and trendy bean bag. I updated the typical shape into a square. The pillow needed to accommodate two little rascals. I think I achieved my goal.

Other little boy wouldn't sit still but I was able to capture this precious photo of Ryan sitting contently on our new bean bag. :)

I have been organizing play dates recently for my boys. When we're not exploring outside the house we like to have some of our new friends over. The moms have been so generous sharing their baked goodies every time I host. Now, I'm changing it...I want to give them a great time and a little treat to enjoy when they get home.

I made the best and the most amazing Chewy Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies. Got the recipe from allrecipes.com

Ingredients:

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups quick-cooking oats
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Directions

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt; stir into the creamed mixture until just blended. Mix in the quick oats, walnuts, and chocolate chips. Drop by heaping spoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets.
Bake for 12 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

I packaged these lovely beauties in my tiny tin can lunch boxes. I am enjoying the company of my new mommy friends and their babies. This is my simple way of saying "Thank You".

Deviled Eggs for Khinley's birthday party

Made Deviled Eggs for Khinley's birthday party last week. Huge hit Mark tried the dish for me since I can't eat it. :)

Recipe from Rachel Ray Show

* 3 tablespoons yellow mustard (eyeball it)
* 2 teaspoons (about a small palmful) smoked paprika, plus additional for garnish
* 6 pieces thick-cut bacon
* 12 eggs (save the carton they came in!)
* 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish (eyeball it)
* 3 tablespoons grated onion (about 1/2 small onion)
* A few dashes hot sauce (add more if you like it spicy!)
* 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (eyeball it)
* Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Edited this recipe and added finely chopped fresh dill and some for Garnish. :) I also saved some crushed bacon to finish the dish.

Preparation

Put the eggs in a saucepan, fill it halfway with cold water and set over high heat.

When the water boils, turn off the heat, place a lid on the pot and let sit 10 minutes. Place the pot of cooked eggs in the sink and run some cold water over the eggs until both the water and the pan feel cool. When the eggs are cool enough to handle, take them out of the water, roll each egg on a work surface to crack the shell and carefully peel off the eggshells.

While the eggs are cooking, place a medium-size skillet over medium heat. Cook the bacon in the pan until crispy and golden brown, 3-4 minutes per side. Remove the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate. Once cool, chop into small pieces and reserve.

Place the eggs on a cutting board and cut a quarter off the egg from the fat rounded end to expose the yolk. Next, cut just a sliver off the pointed end so the egg is able to sit upright without rolling over.

Once all the eggs have been cut, scoop out the yolks into a medium-size mixing bowl. Place the egg white shells back into the egg container for easy transport and filling, making sure the holes are pointing up so you can fill them with the delicious bacon-y mixture.
Step

Grab your bowl of yolks and break them up a little bit using a fork. Add in the chopped bacon, smoked paprika, mustard, relish, grated onion, hot sauce and mayo, and give everything a good stir. Season to taste with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Step

Make an instant pastry bag by spooning the egg mixture into a plastic, re-sealable bag and squishing it all into one of the bottom corners. Snip off a small triangle from the bottom of the filled bag and squeeze out a bit of yolk mixture into each of the egg whites. Once all eggs are filled, dust them with a little of the smoked paprika, close the carton lid and you're good to go.

Yard Sale Find

I went on a yard sale date with my friend Mic. She's so good at it she can sniff the best areas from a mile away. She scopes them out while she's out running. This lady goes out for six miles around different neighborhoods.

I was such a newbie I was scared to ask for discounts. Anyway, I got the hang of it and we found a bunch of great items. One of them is this rocking chair. It was tagged for $4, but we bargained and got it for $2. It's a toddler rocking chair, wood stain was just horrible and the denim chair pads was just darn ugly.

Mic purchased the chair for her little girl. She's turning one this week. I decided to refinish the rocking chair and give it some TLC.

I got some black indoor/outdoor spray paint. I also made some chair pads. I found a stash of canvas fabric in my craft room that just looks darling.

I'm kicking myself for not taking a before photo. Here's the new chair. Looks too darn cute.

I am officially addicted to yard sale hunting now. I'm on the look out for wooden activity table for the boys. Hope to find the right one someday.

It's been crazy around here. We're done with the big party, said our goodbyes to our visiting family, cleaned the house, back to my projects and our little family activities. With all the whirl wind of events...I was able to put together this special Father's Day album for my husband. I compiled all the precious pictures to remember his first year of being a Daddy. I just hope my husband isn't reading my blog post. :)

Pinhole Press is simply remarkable. I've seen it at A Cup of Jo back in March. It was love at first sight. I knew I would come up with a personalized gift for someone someday. The website is so easy to use and navigate. The only hard part is waiting for all the pictures to render. Saving took a long time too! I was able to save some time by creating a folder I wanted for the album. The checkout process was amazing and shipping was impressive. I can't wait to create more albums for my family.

I chose the brown spine cover and a sepia finish for the photo cover. I just love that I don't have to worry about adding too many text for each page. I do love the dedication page Pinhole Press provided. It's enough space for me to say what I want to say.

Ryan & Will's 1st Birthday Party

I was inspired by all the handmade parties I've seen online and wanted to give myself a similar challenge. Planning for this party began five months in advance. I wanted it to be super special for my twin boys and husband. All three of them share the same birthday. How amazing is that!

The trick of course was finding the time to finish all the different elements I wanted. Between all of my normal mommy duties, household chores, errands and freelance gigs, I was able to sneak some time to research, learn a few DIY birthday projects, design and create my very own handmade birthday party.

The aqua and blue circus theme was inspired by a paper carousel from Meri Meri given to my boys. I loved the elephant especially, so that became the centerpiece of my design.

After creating the party invitation, everything began to fall into place. I sewed a simple elephant themed fabric pennant and a crochet banner. I repurposed my old baby food jars into these pretty little containers for Jelly Beans. I whipped up some homemade caramel popcorn as another party favor, we added a jar full of animal crackers and goldfish to our dessert table. I made birthday shirts, pj's and bibs for the boys. I also created three giant smash cakes. The party hats were handmade too!

As an added touch - my husband hired his co-worker to play 'Happy Birthday' and some other songs on his bagpipes. It was an ode to the boys half-Scottish heritage and filled the neighborhood with some pretty cool tunes.

Happy 1st Birthday to the sweetest little boys in the whole world and my loving husband. Thank you for putting up with me when I am in my crazy creative moods. I love you and am looking forward for many more years of celebration.

Repurposed Baby Food Jars

I love cooking for my boys but when we are out and about we do use the baby food jars. We buy our baby food jars in bulk at BJ's. Much cheaper than buying them at our local supermarket. We're done with them and didn't want to throw them out. I knew I would be using them for something one day. While planning their first birthday party I had an idea about repurposing them.

Our theme was aqua and orange circus. I wanted to use the jars for the Jelly Bean favors. I did a few design ideas and finally came up with the best one.

Materials:
Felt (available at any craft store)
Pinking Shears (my new favorite tool)
Rotary Cutter
Cutting Mat
Divine Twin (Aqua)
Party Favor Labels
Small Elastic Bands

The hard part of the whole process is pretty much cleaning the food jars. The best way to remove the label and glue from the jars is soaking them in hot water with soap. Soak them for a few hours, rinse, scrub and rinse. Left them on the counter top to dry overnight.

I used my oatmeal plastic top as my circle pattern. It worked so well. I suggest trimming your circles using the rotary cutter and use a cutting mat. You don't want to ruin your table. Then using the pinking shears trim 1/8" all around to give it a nice edge.

Fill the jar with Jelly Beans. Put the lid back on tightly and place the nicely trimmed felt. Secure it with the elastic band. Then tie some Divine Twine around it. Add your label and that's it! Pretty simple and inexpensive giveaway for any party.

You don't have to use Jelly Beans. I thought it went really well with my theme. You can use M&M's and other fun candies.

First Birthday Shirts and Pj's

I have been busy sewing and planning their first birthday party. I decided to make some cute birthday shirts and pj's. I am currently addicted to any applique and iron-on vinyls.

Materials:
Silhouette SD
Cricut Machine for cutting the big numbers
Favorite Fabric
Steam-a-seam Lite Double Stick Fusible Web (available at any craft store)
Iron-on Vinyl

Here are the cute shirts. I used a small paper plate as my pattern guide for cutting the circle appliques. I used steam-a-seam and sewed all corners down.

Look I'm getting better at following the curves. Very addicting.

I used my old Cricut machine to cut the vinyl numbers. I didn't get my Silhouette SD in time but it still worked like a charm.

I also made matching pants.

Here's the other pattern I picked for this project.

Here they are. Cute as can be. I'm so addicted to making them. I hope the boys enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them. Now, I just need a serger machine. Imagine all the things I can do with that.

Freezer Paper Stencil Project

I haven't tried stenciling using the freezer paper. I have seen so many tutorials online and had to give it a try. My new Silhouette SD machine arrived and could not wait to use my new crafting toy.

Materials:
Inexpensive Shirt
Freezer Paper
Tulip Fabric Paint
Any Board (I inserted a board inside the shirt to keep the fabric flat and to prevent the paint from going through the back of the shirt)

I designed the robot image using Illustrator.

You can't see the legs of my robot but it's cute. It's my first shirt stencil. I'll do a much better job next time. Thanks for my baby model for making the shirt look good.

Laminated Bibs

I totally spaced out and forgot to post this project I did a few months ago. Boys are growing up too fast. They are loving puree food so I made my own wipeable baby bibs.

Pocket on bottom to catch any mess. Laminated my own fabric, made my own bias tape and pattern inspired by my messy boys. I got so addicted to this layout I made more for my little ones.
This fabric is actually a table napkin I purchased from a tent sale at Swoozies years ago. I really like the fabric but I don't really use it as much. I decided to screw the napkin use and re-purpose it as a baby bib.
This fabric was just a left over from the burp cloths I made for the boys. The apples fabric came from the burp cloth stash as well. I love them so much I thought I would make matching bibs for the babies.

You'll need:

Favorite Fabric
Iron-on Vinyl
Velcro
Bias Tape (match the color to your favorite fabric)
Old Bib as a pattern (I actually like the Bumkins bib layout)

First, find a favorite bib you would like to copy. I'm using the Bumkins bib that I got from my sister-in-law as a baby gift. Trace the bib around and leave 1/4" allowance all around.
Cut strips of fabric to match your fabric. I actually had some left over plain solid color fabrics from an old project. I made it long enough to run along the edges of the laminated bib. You can follow this easy DIY tutorial from Prudent Baby for a more detailed instructions.
Use the trimmed fabric for the bib and lay it down on top of the iron-on vinyl. Trim along the edges. Follow the iron-on vinyl instructions when you start ironing your fabric to the vinyl. Trim extra edges before sewing the bias tape along the sides.
For the pocket it's 3 1/2" from the bottom of the bib. Use the main bib and trim cu along the side and straight across. Laminate the pocket separately before sewing the bias tape around the bib.
Use sewing pins and attach the bias tape around the laminated fabric and begin to sew the tape around the sides.
Cut your Velcro pieces to the size you desire. I followed the Bumkins Velcro style. I like the flexibility of adjusting the bib as the baby gets older.

Now, I have enough bibs to use for my two hungry twin boys.

I was looking for a quick project for Valentines Day but didn't find one. It's been really crazy around here with my twin 8 month old boys. They are so active and just beginning to crawl. Crafting is a bit of a stretch for me these days. Instead I dug up old felt stash in my craft room and sew little heart cut-outs for my little homemade cards. I used some of my $1 rubber stamp finds at Michael's from years ago. I finally made use of them. Here are the cute cards I made in a few minutes. I hope my family and friends would enjoy them on Valentines Day.

Baked with Love

Yesterday I made bread for the first time for my Valentine. I actually followed the master recipe from this book Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a book recommended by my friend Deena. I have to say I was a little bit scared to tackle the recipe but it wasn't that bad once I got into it. Making your own bread does take a lot of time. Actually, waiting time for the rising of the bread. I will definitely be making this master recipe again and I will work my way throughout the book and make everything in it. I just hope my little Sous chefs will allow me to make them.

Repurposed Old T-shirts

I am not a sewing expert but I am so inspired of repurposing old pieces of clothing.

See my shirt...I will be making two pairs of pants using this shirt. Body will be a wide legged style and the arms would be a tight fitting pair. I used my Old Navy shirt. I was going to send it off for donation but decided to try and make my own pair of pants. I didn't spend any money on materials...so if I failed I don't have to feel so bad. My kind of project. :)

I need to get a bigger cutting mat next time. Prepping the pieces for the pants.

Here's first pair I made from my BW shirt. This is my wide legged version. I used Ryan's old pair of Carter's PJ pants and traced the pattern from there.

Homemade Strawberry Jam

Our weekend routine is pretty simple. We always shop at Harris Teeter. Now, we pack the boys up and they tag along with us on our shopping trip. Last weekend strawberries were on sale. I could not pass it up. It was so darn cheap. It was buy 1 container get 2 FREE. I'm such a sucker when it comes to these especially with fruits. I was planning on eating a bowl each day for breakfast. Taking care of two baby boys sometimes you forget to eat breakfast. I opened the fridge yesterday and three containers of strawberries where still in there untouched. I felt horrible now that I'm a stay-at-home mommy I should do a better job in using everything we have in our fridge and pantry so I decided to make some strawberry jam.

Perfect breakfast. Homemade strawberry jam with toast.

Strawberry Jam

2 pounds fresh strawberries, hulled (I used 2.5 lbs. instead)
3 cups of white sugar
1/4 cup of lemon juice

Wash and slice strawberries and use a heavy bottomed saucepan. Mix together the strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice. Stir over low heat until the sugar is dissolved. Increase heat to high, and bring the mixture to a full rolling boil. Boil, stirring often, until the mixture reaches 220 degrees F (105 degrees C). Transfer to hot sterile jars, leaving 1/4 to 1/2 inch headspace, and seal. Process in a water bath. If the jam is going to be eaten right away, don't bother with processing, and just refrigerate.

Got this kit from Walmart. It's cheap and totally worth it. Just follow the information from the packaging. It's so simple and easy to do.

Remove the foam from the pan and let it simmer until the sauce thickens. You don't want white foam in your jam.

Testing if your jam is ready

Place three plates in a freezer... after about 10 minutes of boiling place a tsp of the liquid of the jam onto the cold plate. Return to freezer for a minute. Run your finger through the jam on the plate... if it doesn't try to run back together (if you can make a line through it with your finger) it's ready to be canned!

2 1/2 containers of strawberries and look what I got? This is such a great idea after strawberry picking. Next spring I will bring the boys with me at Page Farms and we'll be picking strawberries.

Nicole's Birthday Surprise

I made a beautiful set of handmade note cards with a matching birthday card. I also made nice framed 4x6 card from The Bright Side Project with a sweet message "Stop Smile Breathe Life is Beautiful". I used a nice white vintage frame and a matching pattern paper from Martha Stewart's paper craft collection. I'm thankful I had enough pattern paper to cover all the cards and the matte for the frame.

Downloaded the Poster Card first from The Bright Side Project website and used the pattern paper and trimmed a 5x7 matte to match the color of the card. I printed the card using a 100lb. cover stock. The card size is 4x6 and it's perfect for my matte. Cleaned the vintage white frame and inserted the card. That was easy right? Simple, easy and a FREE gift for a very special friend.

Handmade note cards for Nicole. Carefully hand crafted for a sweet and special friend. I used Hero Arts Four Dolls clear stamp set the Japanese dolls are simply adorable. I also matched the paper with the matte I used previously.

I also used another pattern paper to give the Kimono a cute accent. I also punched flowers and added stick-on pearls. I used Spellbinders™ Nestabilities line Labels Two for layered shapes behind the Japanese doll. I used my Big Shot machine but you can use your Sizzix machine as well.

After assembly I added a little blush on their cute little cheeks using the Pebbles Inc. Pearlescent Chalks. Hope the dolls bring Nicole happiness on her special day.

The cards are done and ready for gift wrapping. I also created her very cute birthday card. I took the regular note card and used the Cuttlebug A2 Embossing Folder - Spots and Dots to give it some texture. I used the same pattern paper and ribbon from the frame. For the center design I used Martha Stewart's light blue card stock paper, punched a circle and punched a bunch of flowers. I used glue dots to arrange the flowers.

I ran out of pearl stickers so I decided to improvise and use this white pearl shirt paint. It works great. It's classic chic. I think I'm ready to greet my friend a very Happy Birthday.

I really enjoyed making their shirts and fell in love with the whole process. My friend Linda came by yesterday for a visit. She brought us Q-Shack BBQ dinner, took some really amazing baby pictures of the boys, fed and burped them too. It was a wonderful day. I felt loved and missed by my dear friend. We will find time to meet her out for lunch dates sometime. Here's the picture of the boys swaddled nicely on top of a big Pottery Barn basket.

24/7 Cuddle Time

So here I am surviving my first week of no help (aside from my darling husband) with my twin boys. I honestly think this is the best job anybody can have. Who wouldn't like spending their entire time with two cute little babies. I get to have 24/7 cuddle time with my angels. I didn't see myself not working at all after all these years. I learned a lot of things this week and I am amazed how I managed to pull myself together despite of it all. I'm not perfect but you deal with it one day at a time. Things doesn't get better right away. It takes time. I also learned about "mommy time" in short for "me time". I totally get what that means now.

I see myself working on my craft projects while the boys are sleeping. Yesterday, was just a major milestone again. I managed to sew my first changing pad using this pretty oil cloth that I purchased months ago from hartsfabric. I also finished a bunch of burp cloths from receiving blankets I got from my shower. They were too small for my boys. I didn't want to give them away so I thought I would recycle and sew them into burp cloths. I also finished a creativity mat for my niece Cate. I will be working on more projects and will be posting them to inspire crafty stay at home moms out there.

I am addicted to zulily's website. I catch myself drooling over great baby designer finds. I absolutely love these Superhero and Rock Tees from Trunk. I want these shirts so bad but I have to restraint myself for buying everything I see for the boys now that I am a stay at home mom now. Cannot be buying things all the time especially clothes. They grow out of their clothes sooo fast.

Finally Home

We are finally home. What a great feeling. We left the hospital today feeling excited and scared but Ms. Catie (Special Care Nurse) helped us along the way. This was by far the most awaited day ever. I spent all night preparing last minute things for the boys and also made sure that the guest bedroom was all set. My mom will be arriving at midnight from California. She will be helping us for a little while. How awesome is that? I can't wait to see her I know for sure she'll have a great time with us and the boys.

Longest 6 days of our lives

We left the hospital last week and so far it's been 5 days since we left the boys at the Special Care Nursery. To tell you the truth it has been the longest days ever. We have been driving back and forth to hospital to see the boys. We look forward to each day with hope and good news. Tomorrow will be day 6 and the boys get to come home with us. They passed their car seat, jaundice, hearing tests. When we left the hospital today they were scheduled to be circumcised. It's hard knowing that they will be in so much pain, but we think it will be better now rather than later.

I have little gifts for the nurses at WakeMed hospital who took care of me during my postpartum recovery and for the folks who took care of the boys in the Special Care Nursery. When you are surrounded with good people it makes the whole experience better. It was truly incredible and amazing. I am thankful for each and everyone who helped us get through all these.

For our family and friends who kept us in their prayers. We are forever thankful for everything. Our sincere appreciation for all that you have done for us. We are forever grateful.

We will share coming home pictures as soon as we get settled in.

I am on week three of my gestational diabetes diet. So far so good. Tomorrow I will be sending my 2nd week glucose logs to my nurse at Duke Ob/GYN. Hope she doesn't give me any negative news about my blood sugar. I have been pushing my limit like the nurse told me to. I have been eating things I am not suppose to eat. Lately, I have been craving cupcakes. Found this posting from MadeByGirl and absolutely drooled over the Blackout cupcake from Crumbs Bake Shop in NYC. Anybody want to send me some cupcakes? It's a mini chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream mixed with chocolate ganache frosting. Amazing huh!

Chocolate Cupcakes

Designed cupcake toppers and white frosting with pink sugar crystals. I didn't use the chocolate frosting for this recipe.

HERSHEY'S "PERFECTLY CHOCOLATE" Chocolate Cake (I used this recipe but for cupcakes)

Ingredients:

* 2 cups sugar
* 1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
* 3/4 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa
* 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
* 1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 2 eggs
* 1 cup milk
* 1/2 cup vegetable oil
* 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
* 1 cup boiling water
* "PERFECTLY CHOCOLATE" CHOCOLATE FROSTING (recipe follows)

Directions:
1. Heat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans.

2. Stir together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt in large bowl. Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla; beat on medium speed of mixer 2 minutes. Stir in boiling water (batter will be thin). Pour batter into prepared pans.

3. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks. Cool completely. Frost with "PERFECTLY CHOCOLATE" CHOCOLATE FROSTING. 10 to 12 servings.

VARIATIONS:
ONE-PAN CAKE: Grease and flour 13x9x2-inch baking pan. Heat oven to 350° F. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake 35 to 40 minutes. Cool completely. Frost.

THREE LAYER CAKE: Grease and flour three 8-inch round baking pans. Heat oven to 350°F. Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake 30 to 35 minutes. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to wire racks. Cool completely. Frost.

BUNDT CAKE: Grease and flour 12-cup Bundt pan. Heat oven to 350°F. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake 50 to 55 minutes. Cool 15 minutes; remove from pan to wire rack. Cool completely. Frost.

CUPCAKES: Line muffin cups (2-1/2 inches in diameter) with paper bake cups. Heat oven to 350°F. Fill cups 2/3 full with batter. Bake 22 to 25 minutes. Cool completely. Frost. About 30 cupcakes.

"PERFECTLY CHOCOLATE" CHOCOLATE FROSTING (I skipped this one)

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine
2/3 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa
3 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Melt butter. Stir in cocoa. Alternately add powdered sugar and milk, beating to spreading consistency. Add small amount additional milk, if needed. Stir in vanilla. About 2 cups frosting.

I made this especially for a friend. It's really soft and cute. It took me one week to finish the blanket and it was well worth it. It's a slanted shell crochet pattern. It's really amazing because I got the pattern via You Tube. The lady did a very good job demonstrating the stitches and it was very easy to do.

Project: Birthday Party Invitations and Birth Announcements
Firstly, thank you so much for the birthday party invitations. Everyone was so impressed at how adorable they were! The Finding Nemo theme went over great and the birthday girl especially loved them!
